How do you change the serpentine belt in 97 neon?

the neon doesn't have a spring loaded tensioner, you have to loosen the alt bolts and it has a 3rd bolt you have to loosen to release the tension, same for the a/c but its on the idler pulley.

what he said but to get tension off the tensioner use a rachet without a socket

Release the tension on the belt by pulling forward on the tensioner pulley, remove the old belt. Install the new belt following the routing diagram, Pull the tensioner forward again and slip the new belt over it. The tensioner pulley will put the right amount if tension on the belt if it is not excessively worn.
It's a fairly easy evolution. The belt runs over several pulleys including the alternator / air conditioner condensor / water pump / power steering pump. Tension is achieved by a %26quot;belt tensioner%26quot; which is spring loaded. You will need to move the tensioner with either a rachet or wrench to remove the belt and reverse the procedure to install the new belt. Pay attention to the belt routing, there should be a diagram under the hood nearby.

Good Luck and have fun.
