2000 Ford Taurus - Groaning Noise When Turning Left?

I Have a 2000 Ford Taurus. For awhile now I've been hearing this awful groaning noise whenever I turn the steering wheel left. The sound kind of reminds me of a donkey.

I tried changing the serpentine belt because it had signs of wear. I also changed the power steering pump and put new fluid in. None of this has helped.

So what can it be?

yes, the rack and pionon gear assembly,,which turns the car, and the power steering unit feeds, has a valve in it that gets dirty and clogged. i had a 94 cougar that stuck when i turned it left, and it was this valve try that first.

You may be your own worst enemy here! THese cars do NOT use POWER STEERING FLUID in them. They use either Dexron or Mercon transmission fluid in the power steering system!!! There are so many Ford cars out there that have gone to the local jiffy lube, and the attendant has put in the WRONG fluid, causing groans and noisy, faulty power steering pumps. YOU might have been a victim of this, too! For goodness sake, READ YOUR MANUAL about the proper fluids to use in this car before you do some MORE damage!! The Taurus is one of the best American made cars.
Did you properly bleed the powersteering unit of %26quot;air%26quot; ? This would be why.If you don't, you will ruin the new one in no time. Does the manual specify %26quot;F%26quot; fluid only?

if yes, do not use tranny fluid, look for %26quot;F%26quot; type fluid only
Since in one direction maybe defective rack%26amp;pinion unit
could be a ball bearing or joint
